MBR (My Business Reports)
This communication client’s Business Report Lookup app was not seeing the mobile usage % they expected. In turn, they turned to us to analyze their business reporting dashboard app and bring it up to speed to provide a better a better user experience and drive up engagement.
Time: 4 Months Tools: Figma, Mural, Adobe CC, Microsoft 365
Problem
I received poorly executed and scarce research from our offshore design team. This forced me to work on translating these poor findings into effective solutions. Additionally, we were faced with the challenge of updating a mobile application with minimal guidance or resources provided by our client partners.
Action
Combining the aforementioned research with my expert knowledge through high-level analysis, I incorporated feedback from stakeholders and offshore designers who acted as proxy users to compensate for our limited access to real users.
Result
The client was elated with our suggestions, expressing their delight in the outcomes we presented. Our client partners conveyed that they had never before approved designs with such minimal feedback and in such a quick turnaround. Presently, discussions are underway regarding potential future work.
Project Overview & Methods
Research & Exploration
Analysis:
During the RFP stage, we had internal discussions on conducting a full heuristic analysis. I suggested we do a more laid back 1-2 slide powerpoint to showcase the issues with the current application. This was well received, won us the project, and I was able too reference this work during the rest of the project.
Offshore Research:
I was unable to conduct our own research given the budget and circumstances surrounding this project. However, after digging, I did recieve poorly executed research done by the client partners I was working with. This was frustrating, but typical, so I knew how to work around it.
Proxy Interviews:
Our time discussing the previous research with the client partners made it clear they had a wide breadth of knowledge regarding the users of this tool. Thus, I suggested we do a series of 3 proxy interviews to obtain a greater understanding of the users and their needs.
Site Map:
I created a sitemap in Excel to show our proposed changes - we combined some pages and switched the locations of in ways we felt in our expert opinion and based on the proxy interviews that users would have an easier time finding related features and functions. This was approved with no changes.
Design & Iteration
High Level Analysis:
I initially created low fidelity wireframes.
High-Fidelity Prototype:
Our time discussing the previous research with the client partners made it clear they had a wide breadth of knowledge regarding the users of this tool. Thus, I suggested we do a series of 3 proxy interviews to obtain a greater understanding of the users and their needs. We were able to use our heuristic analysis as a basis for this work, re-organizing the site map and creating modern looking tiles with more details on the loading screen seen blow.
